Intersec has been shortlisted for the Best Use of Critical Communications in Public Safety award at the International Critical Communications Awards (ICCA) 2025 for its role in modernizing England’s Flood Warning System (FWS), in collaboration with Leidos and Cogworx.

The Project: A modernized Flood Warning System for England

The Environment Agency (EA) selected Leidos, supported by Intersec’s Public Warning System (PWS), to replace England's 20-year-old flood alert infrastructure. The new system integrates geospatial intelligence and AI-driven automation to protect 5.7 million flood-risk properties.

Key features of Intersec’s contribution:

  • Multichannel public alerts: Location-based warnings via SMS, cell broadcast, and digital platforms ensure near-universal coverage.

  • Real-time situational awareness: Advanced geographic layers and precise mapping, all within a user-friendly interface.

  • Cloud scalability: Designed for long-term adaptability, reducing physical infrastructure and aligning with the UK’s net-zero goals.

The system shifts England’s flood response from reactive to proactive, enabling earlier evacuations and resource deployment. Intersec’s PWS technology ensures alerts reach vulnerable communities efficiently, a critical factor in public safety.
