Geolocation efficiency in telecom networks

aerial

End-to-end location platform

Proper geolocation is required to meet network coverage requirements for reporting purposes on the actual cell coverage or to comply with positioning standards. Intersec's hybrid location platform goes way beyond compliance: it computes and structures a tremendous amount of location insights and mobility patterns to help telcos meet evolving network dynamics and regulatory compliance, grow their top-line business, and optimize their costs. By orchestrating passive and active geolocation technologies, achieve finer spatial and temporal precision, with highly contextualized mobility insights.

What's possible for telecom networks

Network efficiency

Network efficiency

Optimizing network performance and resilience is critical to ensure proper coverage, capacity, and service quality. By analyzing location data, you can strategically position network resources, dynamically balance traffic, and prevent congestion in high-demand areas. Understanding user movement patterns also allows for more efficient traffic routing and improved connectivity, reducing latency and ensuring a robust and reliable network.

emergency

Emergency services

Telecom networks are required to significantly enhance their positioning capabilities to meet growing public safety demands and regulations. By advancing on-demand geolocation for accurately pinpointing emergency calls, and employing mass geolocation for real-time situational awareness and emergency public alerts, they help ensure more effective emergency responses and provide greater overall protection for communities.

Fraud prevention

Network device location plays a crucial role in fraud prevention. Telecom operators leverage geolocation data to verify transactions, protect against insurance fraud, and secure manufacturing assets. By cross-referencing a customer's mobile phone location with transaction sites, financial institutions can significantly reduce fraudulent activities. Real-time detection and blocking of stolen devices enhance overall security.

apis

Network exposure

Telecom operators are transitioning from traditional SIM and internet providers to exposing network capabilities through initiatives like CAMARA's device location project. This massive transformation, already underway, leverages API standardization for seamless integration. The proliferation of connected devices will generate vast amounts of data, enabling the creation of digital connectivity twins and innovative services across industries.

Agora

Agora

Maximum accuracy, minimal network load

Agora is an end-to-end hybrid location platform that seamlessly combines active location-based services and passive mass-scale location intelligence. Leveraging 30+ location techniques including RF Fingerprinting and assisted GNSS within the 5G network, Agora achieves pinpoint accuracy of below three meters — outperforming other providers in comparable tests, while prioritizing real-time updates with minimal latency. Our patented technology ensures precise location data, reaching up to thousands of location points per subscriber daily, surpassing traditional geolocation techniques.

A digital twin of your subscriber base

Active/on-demand geolocation

more

With our Gateway Mobile Location Centre (GMLC), accurately retrieve a subscriber’s location in real time. Fully 3GPP/OMA compliant & vendor-agnostic, it seamlessly integrates with all network generations' Mobile Location Centres (SMLC/SAS/e-SMLC/LMF) to increase the precision of location reporting. It uses the Open Mobile Alliance (OMA) industry-standard mobile location protocol (MLP) to report the subscriber’s location to the predefined endpoints/applications.

Passive/mass geolocation

more

Our location middleware passively collects events occurring in mobile networks and extracts location information from these events. The passive collection of subscriber locations enables a mass-scale approach to location-based services to maintain a continuous knowledge of all subscribers’ mobility patterns at the scale of the whole subscriber base of a mobile network operator. Our unique passive location engine collects thousands of points per subscriber per day.

Why combine location techniques?

more

In order to get the best location at the scale of an entire country (subscriber base for an MNO) you first need to implement the largest set of location techniques, to cover all cases. To always get the best location you need to ensure that you select the most appropriate set of techniques depending on the use case you serve. When it comes to locating an emergency call, spatial accuracy, speed, and reliability are key, on marketing use-case it is more the context that is key, not missing any change of it... as fast as possible. Context of the geolocated subscriber is also key to choosing the best techniques. In urban areas multipathing from the signal reflection on buildings impacts geolocation computation, the situation is different in the countryside with a direct line of sight to one or several antennae.

This is all about covering all location techniques and knowing how to best select the one to use depending on the use case and the context of the subscriber. Combining geolocation techniques also optimizes network resources, reduces blind spots, and provides enhanced tracking capabilities. We have developed even more advanced AI features that unleash all the benefits coming from their mutual enrichment. According to the use case and the context, the location middleware chooses the most appropriate mechanism or combines them to benefit from their respective advantages.

Open and vendor neutral

more

Our platform can be used to bridge the gap between legacy applications and datasets by opening mobile networks to a whole ecosystem of standards and interfaces, allowing telcos to act as an anchor with suppliers, distributors, and partners and grow over time.

Our 5G-ready platform integrates with any network equipment vendors, from Radio Access Network (RAN) vendors to Routing and Switching gear vendors, ensuring total coverage even across legacy and hybrid infrastructure.

Key capabilities

Intersec offers the most comprehensive catalog of location technologies on the market, leveraging a set of 30+ location techniques in mass & on-demand  geolocation in both cell ID  and subcell (timing advance, RTT/Multi-cell RTT, TDOA, OTDOA, AGNSS, RTK, RF Fingerprinting, etc.)
Remarkably, by testing various positioning methodologies — both active and passive — in various contexts —  both urban and suburban — our location engine surpassed these standards to reach unprecedented accuracy levels, up to 400 times superior to traditional methods. View test results.
Intersec provides an extensive set of documented APIs to build applications on top of Agora, leveraging its powerful capabilities on real-time geolocation or history location.

Testimonials

We chose Intersec for its ability to handle both passive and active location, but also for its capability to crunch a very large amount of data in real-time with a very limited hardware footprint.
